York Hospital Childbirth Education Classes

The Parent Education Program at York Hospital helps to prepare couples for childbirth and parenthood. It encourages families to become involved in this memorable experience by reaching beyond childbirth to help prepare for family adjustments. Programs are taught by experienced registered nurses in the obstetrics department. Each has specific training in parent education.

Maybe A Baby
Planning is everything especially when it comes to having a baby. Learn important steps in preparing your mind, body and home for a healthy pregnancy. $10 per couple

Prepared Childbirth Series
Stages of labor, comfort measures, anesthesia choices, labor interventions, postpartum adjustments, relaxation and breathing techniques, and Cesarean delivery will all be covered. This series includes: four week childbirth education class; baby care class; breastfeeding class; and a tour.  $70 per couple

Condensed Childbirth Class
This five hour class provides information on the stages of labor, anesthesia, cesarean sections, labor interventions, and comfort measures in a condensed format. Relaxation and breathing techniques will be covered briefly. Participants will also be scheduled for a tour of the York Hospital Mother Infant Center. This class is offered once monthly on a weekend and fills quickly so please register early.  $60 per couple

Planned Cesarean Section Class
Designed for parents experiencing a planned cesarean, this class will help to educate parents on pre-operative routine, anesthesia, operative procedure and recovery.  $25 per couple

Planned Cesarean Series
Multiclass program includes Planned Cesarean Class; Baby Care; Breastfeeding.  $40 per couple

Refresher
This class is perfect for parents looking to brush up on breathing, relaxation and comfort measures and review the birth process.  Participants will also receive an overview of anesthesia options of and labor interventions. $15 per couple

Breastfeeding
Learn the benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby along with techniques and positions to help you prepare for a positive breastfeeding experience. This class is included in the Prepared Childbirth Series or can be taken individually.  $20 per couple

Breastfeeding Beyond the Basics
Led by a certified lactation consultant, this class provides support and helpful information on topics such as milk supply; pumping and storing breast milk; going back to work; caregivers and transitioning to bottle feeding. This class is perfect for postpartum mothers with babies up to eight weeks old.  $15 per couple

Baby Care
Learn the ins and outs of baby care including feeding, safe sleep, cord care and bathing.  Participants will get hands on experience in diapering and swaddling and learn about the day-to-day care of the newborn. Participants are asked to bring a stuffed animal/doll, diaper and blanket. $25 per couple

Safe Baby
Participants will get a baby proofing room by room checklist and safety and injury prevention
will be discussed. Participants will also learn the basics of Infant CPR and choking and have chance for practice. This class is perfect for anyone who will be caring for a new baby.  $15 per person

CPR for Family and Friends and First Aid for Children
Designed for the general public, this course includes adult, child and infant CPR and choking management. There is an optional First Aid for Children module which includes first aid for medical, injury, and environmental emergencies. The class is approximately three and a half hours in length. The course is physically demanding. Please consult your physician prior to attending. A $10 reservation fee is required. Call (717) 851-2660 for more details. Free

Grandparents Class
Celebrate the special bond between grandparent and grandchild. Learn about what has changed in childbirth and safety of the newborn. Some topics covered include safe sleep, choking hazards and role of the grandparent. This class also includes a tour. $10 per person

Gentle Touch Infant Massage
Infant massage helps parents bond with their newborn by learning how to provide the calming and loving touch of infant massage. This class is for babies four weeks to six months of age. Includes three one-hour sessions and massage oil. $40 per person

Super Sibling 1
This one hour class helps to prepare three to seven year olds for the birth of a new sibling. Through the use of age appropriate stories and crafts, children will gain an understanding of what it means to be the big brother or big sister and how that makes them special. Children will make a small gift to give "their" new baby. Parents are required to stay. Families can also scheduled a tour of the Mother Infant Center specifically geared toward the children's learning needs.  $15 per person

Super Sibling 2
This one hour class uses age appropriate activities to help eight to 12 year olds prepare for the birth of a sibling. The class will discuss feelings, safety and newborn characteristics. The children will also make a small gift to give to "their" new baby. Parents are required to stay. Families can
also be scheduled into a tour of the Mother Infant center specifically geared toward the children's learning needs.  $15 per person

Mother-Infant Center Tour
Take a free one-hour tour of the labor & delivery and maternity facilities at York Hospital. This tour is for adults only. The tour is offered several times a month.  Free

Car Seat Check
Make sure that your child will be riding safely.  Safe Kids York County has certified child passenger safety seat technicians to assist you in the correct installation and use of your child's safety seat. Please call (888) 232-7233 to schedule an appointment or find the location nearest you or register below. Free
