(717) 851-6350 Disruptive behavior disorders (ADHD, ODD, Conduct Disorder)Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Group Program - Children with ADHD often have symptoms that can interfere with the development of satisfying social relationships, peer acceptance and positive self-esteem. This group, composed of children ages 4-18 years, meets once a week for 12 weeks. Using role-play and family participation, the psychologist works with the child and family to initiate interactions and joining activities, communicate effectively, solve social problems and control anger. Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) Group Treatment Program - ODD is a behavioral disorder that usually presents itself at a young age. It impairs the normal peaceful development of both the child and the family. In this group, composed of parents and their children, the child plays an active role in their parents' learning of new management skills. The eight-week program consists of weekly sessions that build upon one another. Mood disorders (Bipolar Disorder, Depression)Girls Group Treatment Program - Growing up, there may be times when female adolescents find themselves with low-self esteem, anxiety or depression. This program, consisting of two age-specific groups, teaches girls how to understand and rebuild their core worth, recognize dreams and set goals, replace self-defeating thoughts and actions with realistic thoughts and positive actions and love themselves. The groups run for 12 weeks. Anxiety disorders (OCD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder)Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Group Program - OCD is a type of anxiety disorder that causes children to experience obsessive, unwanted thoughts and to compulsively and repeatedly perform tasks to try to get rid of those thoughts. Using a cognitive behavioral approach, the psychologist teaches the group to manage anxiety exposure and types of response prevention. The program, which has a child (8-12 years) and adolescent (12-18 years) group, is eight weeks in duration. Autistic spectrum disorders (Asperger's Disorder, Autism)Asperger's Group Program - Children with this disorder experience the inability to understand the feelings of others, abnormal single-mindedness, lack of verbal skills, insensitivity to social cues, withdrawal and obsessive indulgence in special interests. This group teaches the child social skills. Each week, the group introduces a specific skill and offers activities to support the development of the skill. The group is ongoing. Adolescent IssuesAdolescent Group Psychotherapy Program - Group psychotherapy, like individual psychotherapy, is intended to help children to improve their ability to cope with difficulties and problems in their lives. This group is suitable for a large variety of problems and difficulties, beginning with children who would like to develop their interpersonal skills and ending with those with emotional problems like anxiety and depression. Two age specific psychotherapy groups are available: 12-15 and 16-18 years old. The weekly program is ongoing. The nature and extent of the child's problems determines how long group therapy is necessary. |
