WellSpan Behavioral Health Services - General InformationAt WellSpan Health, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and mental health professionals combine efforts to provide the most appropriate level of behavioral health care for people of all ages: children, adolescents and adults. Together, these individuals work in conjunction with area physicians, schools, businesses, governmental agencies, and social service organizations to address all aspects of mental health and addiction disorders. To make sure that individuals can access assessment, diagnosis and treatment and referral to the most appropriate level of care, WellSpan Behavioral Health offers a variety of outpatient services at locations throughout south central Pennsylvania. These include individual therapy, family and group counseling and medication management by a psychiatrist, along with such special services as WellSpan Center for Aging, a Child and Adolescent Program and WellSpan Employee Assistance Program. For individuals requiring inpatient care, York Hospital features separate adult, geriatric and adolescent units for intense, short-term treatment and assessment. Out inpatient units are designed to help stabilize patients so they may move on to less restrictive outpatient care as quickly as possible. Our professionals provide consultation for patients at York Hospital, Gettysburg Hospital, Hanover Hospital, and area nursing homes. When Should I Seek Help? When symptoms or life problems/stressors begin to adversely affect activities of daily living such as sleep and appetite patterns, relationships with others and job performance, seeking services may be beneficial. · Expectations: What to Expect When You Come in for an AppointmentWhen you come to your first appointment, it is important to arrive early to complete necessary paperwork. A standard assessment will be completed focusing on presenting symptoms, mental health and substance abuse history, family history and identification of additional life stressors. At the end of your first session, you and your treatment provider will discuss your goals for treatment and recommendations will be made regarding level of care (outpatient, intensive outpatient or inpatient), type of therapy (individual or family) and frequency of treatment. If you're in need of crisis counseling, please call 1-800-673-2496 at any time of the day or night. You may also speak to a crisis counselor face-to-face. Located in York Hospital's Emergency Department, the Crisis Intervention Team addresses between 2,500 and 3,000 emergencies each month. |
