Comprehensive Programs and Services

Gettysburg Hospital, a WellSpan Health hospital, provides extensive services across the community. What began as a single hospital, is now part of a complete system of care offering pre-hospital services, primary care, emergency services, comprehensive acute hospital care, transitional care, home care, and wellness and preventive programs. Through WellSpan Health, patients also have access to the complete services available at York Hospital and its affiliates.

Advanced Life Support Unit

Medic 28 provides basic and advanced life support ambulance and paramedic services to care for and transport the seriously ill or injured. At any hour of the day or night, the paramedics with Medic 28 stand ready to come to the community's rescue. In emergencies, call 911. For more information, call (717) 337-HELP (4357).

Behavioral Health

Located at WellSpan Adams Health Center, Gettysburg Behavioral Health Services provides psychiatric and psychology services. The psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health, and substance abuse providers specialize in the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of mental and emotional disorders and illnesses. Services are available for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Evening appointments are available. For an appointment or more information, call (717) 337-2257.

Cancer Services

Gettysburg Hospital provides care and treatment for patients with tumors and cancer, including chemotherapy and surgical services. The new Adams Cancer Center, located in the WellSpan Adams Health Center, provides a unique system of integrated and coordinated outpatient care with an experienced team of physicians and technicians. In addition to cutting-edge radiation therapy and medical oncology services the center also provides a number of social and support services, including a nurse navigator, nutritional counseling, financial assistance, educational materials and psychosocial support.

Cancer services are also provided to area residents by Cherry Tree Cancer Center, a state-of-the-art facility located in Hanover. Cherry Tree Cancer Center is a joint effort of Gettysburg Hospital, York Hospital, and Hanover Hospital.  

Cardiac Rehabilitation

Recovering from heart problems requires dedication, a positive attitude, and lifestyle changes. It also requires the support of caring professionals. Cardiac Rehabilitation at Gettysburg Hospital provides exercise therapy, diagnostic services, education, and support groups to help heart patients maintain health and reduce future cardiac risk.

A physician and cardiac nurse supervise the program. Working with a patient's health care providers and family, the caregivers in Cardiac Rehab help heart patients achieve a better and longer life. Diagnostic services such as stress testing and pacemaker follow-up are also available. Please contact the Gettysburg Hospital Heart Center or your physician for more information.

Cardiology Services

Gettysburg Hospital provides comprehensive services in diagnostic cardiology and care of the heart patient including EKGs, stress tests, echocardiography, 24-hour Holter monitoring, event recorder monitoring, and pacemaker services and evaluation.

Community Health Services and Programs

Gettysburg Hospital offers a variety of health screenings, workshops, lectures, and programs throughout the community. Many of the programs are free or available at a reduced fee to community members.

Critical Care Services

Gettysburg Hospital provides around-the-clock intensive care by specially trained personnel for the seriously ill or injured patient. The critical care unit offers the latest in life-monitoring and life-support systems for coronary care, intensive care, and telemetry service (remote heart monitoring of patient).  

Dermatology

Consulting staff physicians provide medical evaluation and treatment of skin disorders.

Diabetes Services

Gettysburg Hospital offers complete medical evaluation and treatment of diabetic patients, including screening and counseling to control the disease through diet and medicine, as well as blood sugar and urine testing. We also offer a four session diabetes self-management program throughout the year. Emergency Services

When medical emergencies occur, Gettysburg Hospital is prepared to serve. Physicians and nurses who specialize in emergency medicine treat everything from broken bones to heart attacks. Each year Gettysburg Hospital's emergency department addresses nearly 21,000 emergencies. The hospital's Emergency Department provides 24-hour emergency physician coverage along with a full complement of medical and technical services and equipment to treat medical emergencies.

Gettysburg Hospital Heart Center

State-of-the-art cardiovascular center provides the latest in cardiac diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation. The Gettysburg Hospital Heart Center houses a new diagnostic cardiac catheterization laboratory. 

Home Health Services

VNA Home Health provides health services in the comfort and privacy of a patient's home. Services include nursing care; physical, speech, and occupational therapy; IV and enterstomal therapy; phlebotomy services; as well as prenatal, perinatal, neonatal, and pediatric services. Medicare and Medicaid, as well as most insurance plans, are accepted. 

Imaging Services

Gettysburg Hospital staff radiologists provide a wide spectrum of sophisticated imaging services for the diagnosis of illness and injury. Imaging services include nuclear medicine, ultrasound, CT Scanning, MRI, bone densitometry, sterotactic breast biopsy and mammography. 

Laboratory

Gettysburg Hospital's Laboratory offers comprehensive blood and urine tests. Outpatient laboratory services are available at several sites in Adams County and Northern Maryland. 

Maternity, Prenatal, and Perinatology Services

The Maternity Center at Gettysburg Hospital offers a homelike environment backed by sophisticated medical care. The center provides a perinatologist on staff and physician or nurse midwife birthing options. Anesthetic options are available to increase comfort. Nutrition Services

Occupational Health Services

WellSpan Health's WORKFIRST program offers comprehensive work-site wellness programs and occupational health services. We provide services at your work-site and in our facilities. Our health education programs focus on wellness and are aimed at motivating employees to adopt healthy lifestyles and encouraging early detection. Pain Management Clinic

Gettysburg Hospital's Pain Management Clinic has programs and therapies to manage acute and chronic pain associated with arthritis, past injuries, Fibromyalgia, and more. For more information, call (717) 337-4326.

Pastoral Care

Gettysburg Hospital's Pastoral Care Program assists patients in using their spiritual resources to deal with health care crises. The hospital chaplain's responsibilities are: coordinating and providing pastoral care to patients, family, and staff; developing and maintaining relationships with the local religious community; supervising the program of Clinical Pastoral Education and directing the Congregational Health Initiative for Adams County.

Pediatric Care

Pediatric specialists provide services in Gettysburg Hospital facilities uniquely designed for the care and recuperation of children. To help prepare pediatric patients for procedures and hospitalization, we offer pre-admission tours and sessions to explain what to expect and ease fears.

Pharmacies

WellSpan Health Pharmacies are conveniently located throughout the region. The pharmacies provide complete prescription service, free pharmacist consultations, and competitive pricing.  

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Gettysburg Hospital Rehab)

Gettysburg Hospital has four locations that provide treatment, exercise, and education for injuries and functional impairment. The center at Herr's Ridge features a warm-water aquatic therapy pool and certified aquatic therapist.

Sleep Center

The Sleep Center consists of two patient friendly sleep rooms with bathroom and shower and a dedicated control room. Sleep studies are performed for the diagnosis and treatment of a wide array of sleep disorders.

Social Services

To help patients prepare for leaving the hospital, Gettysburg Hospital social workers assist and counsel patients and their families in referrals to nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, home health agencies, and access to the entire human services network in Adams County and northern Maryland.

Surgical Services

In addition to comprehensive inpatient surgical services, Gettysburg Hospital has same-day/outpatient surgery services available for patients undergoing minor procedures with a shorter recovery time. Gettysburg Hospital offers comprehensive surgical procedures using the latest technology. Anesthetic administration relieves discomfort during surgery and painful therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. The staff provides compassionate, high quality individualized patient care.

Women's Health Center

Comprehensive women's health services are available at the WellSpan Health Center - Gettysburg, including Adams County Women's Health (obstetrical/gynecological practice) and women's imaging services, such as digital mammography, R2 ImageChecker, ultrasound, and stereotactic breast biopsy .
