Gettysburg Hospital Visitor Information

H1N1 Temporary Visitor Policy

In an effort to protect their patients, Gettysburg Hospital, Hanover Hospital, Memorial Hospital and York Hospital have announced that visitors to all areas must be at least 18 years of age.  In some extraordinary cases, however, physicians may give their approval for visitors under age 18.

This temporary policy, which is effective starting Tuesday, Oct. 27, is deemed necessary to limit the potential exposure of patients to those who may have the H1N1 virus.  Although anyone can spread the virus, children under 18 years of age are more likely to do so.

People who have flu-like symptoms, which include fever, cough, sore throat, body ache, headache, chills and fatigue, also are asked not to visit patients.

For the convenience of our patients and their visitors, our visiting privileges are as liberal as we can permit while still assuring our patients the privacy, care and attention they need.

General Visiting Hours and Guidelines
  • General visiting hours are daily from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.
  • Please limit the number of visitors to two at a time.
  • With the exception of pediatrics and maternity, children under 12 years of age are not permitted to visit unless special permission is given from the patient's physician.
Critical Care Unit (CCU)
  • Two visitors at a time may visit between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.  Total visit time should not exceed 30 minutes.
  • Children under 12 are not permitted.
Pediatrics
  • Parents are encouraged to visit at any time and may stay overnight.
  • Siblings over three may visit during general visiting hours (11 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and must be accompanied by an adult.
Maternity
  • Grandparents, family and friends may visit between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily
  • Special visiting time for fathers - 8 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Siblings 18 months and older and accompanied by an adult may visit during visiting hours. Please complete a sibling visitation screening form before going to the patient's room.
  • To protect the privacy of patients sharing rooms, all visitors (with the exception of fathers and siblings) are kindly asked to leave the patient's room during feeding times.
