Bereavement Services at York Hospital meet the needs of patients, families and staff in matters of grief and loss.  Grief is the painful, deeply felt personal response to the loss of something valued or someone loved.  It is the normal and healthy reaction to life's losses and changes.  Healing comes when you learn to identify your loss, understand your reactions, accept that you are grieving, and work the loss into your life and move forward.  While everyone grieves, the way we cope with it is a completely individual experience.  Grief can affect you for a long time and can have a ripple effect touching many other lives.

Support groups, follow up support, and literature are a few of the services we offer to help families through their grief.  A Coping with Grief Support Packet is available that contains information on topics that include how to help a grieving person, death of a specific family member, pregnancy loss, deaths resulting from trauma, and more.

To receive a Coping with Grief Support Packet or for additional information, please contact a member of our staff at (717) 851-3467.

If you feel you need additional help coping with your grief, WellSpan Behavioral Health can help. WellSpan's expert team of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and mental health professionals combine efforts to provide the most appropriate level of behavioral health care to help you and your family through this difficult time. WellSpan Behavioral Health can be reached at (717) 851-1500.
