Through the generosity of corporate sponsors and individual golfers, proceeds to the Children’s Health Fund supported the following programs:
Healthy Options is a partnership between the Adams County Food Policy Council (ACFPC), Healthy Adams County and the Adams County Farmers’ Market Association (ACFMA) to address the needs of local families experiencing food insecurity, yet not eligible for federal food assistance programs. Qualified families will receive vouchers to access healthy, fresh foods from the local ACFMA’s Farm Fresh Markets.
Participants can also receive educational and community building activities about health eating and sustainable living practices. Last year 47 families participated in the Healthy Options program and anticipate growth of the program to 50 families.
Pediatric SAFE Nurse
Provides financial support for the position of a pediatric SAFE (sexual assault forensic examiner) nurse at the Adams County Children’s Advocacy Center (ACCAC). Through the ACCAC, Adams County has a structure for county-wide collaboration and providing best practices protocol for the investigation and treatment of child abuse. The SAFE nurse performs onsite medical examinations to child victims of sexual abuse in accordance with the ACCAC’s multi-disciplinary team approach. At least 70 children and their families receive medical services by the forensic nurse in a comfortable, child focused setting.
Safe Kids Car Seat Program
Supports a collaboration between Healthy Adams County, Safe Kids Adams County and WellSpan to distribute car seats to those in need in the community and to provide education and safe installation of the car seats. Last year 100 car seats were distributed through three locations and the same distribution is projected for this year.
Healthy Kids School Partnership
Supports community service provided by WellSpan Community Health Improvement nurses to perform TB tests for Adams County Head Start children who are economically disadvantaged and have not received TB testing prior to enrollment at Head Start. Early child screening assures that 100% of Head Start children have been properly screened, and if identified with TB receive proper medical care to decrease transmission of the disease. Over 200 children will benefit from the screening.
