Join us for the 29th Annual WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital Benefit Golf Tournament, which will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014, at The Links at Gettysburg. All tournament proceeds are used to benefit uninsured and underprivileged families in Adams County and adjacent Northern Maryland through the Gettysburg Hospital Foundation's Children's Health Fund.
Through the generosity of corporate sponsors and individual golfers, proceeds to the Children’s Health Fund supported the following programs:
Provides important funding to bring HealthConnect, WellSpan Health’s mobile health clinic, to Adams County. HealthConnect features a 36-foot, state-of-the-art mobile health van, and offers treatment for short-term illnesses (such as sore throats or earaches); minor injuries (such as cuts or sprains) and preventive health (such as immunizations). Health professionals on HealthConnect link uninsured families with a caseworker who will assess eligibility, assist them in completing paperwork for Medicaid or CHIP, and put them in touch with appropriate care and resources.
The van has been providing services in Adams County since September 2002. There are currently two sites: Biglerville High School, Mondays from 1-7 pm and Adams County Rescue Mission, the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 10-4 pm.
Pediatric SAFE Nurse
Provides financial support for the position of a pediatric SAFE (sexual assault forensic examiner) nurse at the Adams County Children’s Advocacy Center (ACCAC). Through the ACCAC, Adams County has a structure for county-wide collaboration and providing best practices protocol for the investigation and treatment of child abuse. The SAFE nurse performs onsite medical examinations to child victims of sexual abuse in accordance with the ACCAC’s multi-disciplinary team approach. At least 70 children and their families receive medical services by the forensic nurse in a comfortable, child focused setting.
Safe Kids Car Seat Program
Supports a collaboration between Healthy Adams County, Safe Kids Adams County and WellSpan to distribute car seats to those in need in the community and to provide education and safe installation of the car seats. Last year 100 car seats were distributed through three locations and the same distribution is projected for this year.
Cribs for Kids
Supports a collaboration between Healthy Adams County, Safe Kids Adams County, Adams County Children and Youth Services and WellSpan to provide a safe sleep environment for qualified families in need. Families receive a Pack and Play, crib sheets, and instruction on safe infant sleeping techniques by trained professional. Last year, 48 families received Pack and Plays and the program anticipates distributing 50 this year.
Healthy Kids School Partnership
Supports community service provided by WellSpan Community Health Improvement nurses to perform TB tests for Adams County Head Start children who are economically disadvantaged and have not received TB testing prior to enrollment at Head Start. Early child screening assures that 100% of Head Start children have been properly screened, and if identified with TB receive proper medical care to decrease transmission of the disease. Over 200 children will benefit from the screening.
