WellSpan York Hospital's Regional Resource/Level 1 Trauma Center has been accredited by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation and is the only accredited trauma center in York, Adams and Franklin counties.

Atrium Cafe

This “grab and go” cafe features Starbucks Coffee, upscale bakery products, cold plates, sandwiches and desserts. The Atrium Cafe can be found at the back of the Main Lobby.

Monday through Friday: 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Cafeteria

The cafeteria features breakfast, lunch and dinner. Credit cards accepted. Find the cafeteria by entering WellSpan York Hospital at the North Entrance and taking the North Elevators to Floor 2. Cafeteria is located on Floor 2.

Dinner: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Midnight Express Service: 11:30 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Grab and Go items available 24-7

As of June 20, 2022, the gift shop at WellSpan York Hospital transitioned services into the Atrium Café and outpatient pharmacy. Expansion of items will be carried to include many popular items that were available in the gift shop. Café’ hours are being expanded for the convenience of visitors and staff.

WellSpan York Hospital will continue our partnership with Royer’s Flowers to create a convenient online ordering system for visitors and families who would like to send flowers to patients at our hospital. You can customize a floral, plant or gift arrangements here. Royer’s will deliver your order directly to the hospital.

Pre-made floral arrangements will be available at the Atrium Café on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Wireless Internet service (also known as WiFi) is available in many areas throughout the hospital. However, laptop computers should not be used within two feet of electronic patient care equipment.

Television service is provided free of charge and includes the CARE channel, patient education and maternity channels, weather channel and three local radio stations.

Additionally, telephones are provided in each room for your convenience. Patients may receive calls in their room. Local and toll-free calls may be made at any time from the room by dialing "9" and the number. Long distance calls cannot be charged to your room, but can be made collect or charged to your telephone credit card by dialing "8-9-0-0." For operator assistance, please dial "8-9-0-0."

An Interfaith Chapel is located on the first floor of the hospital and is open at all times for private and personal use of patients and family members. A special prayer request book is also located in the Interfaith Chapel.

Chaplains are available for any patient who desires a visit. Please dial "0" to page the chaplain, or ask your nurse to contact one for you.

Language services are provided by the hospital at no charge to the patient. Your nurse can obtain this service whenever needed. WellSpan York Hospital also has access to interpreting phone and video services that are available 24 hours a day. More than 100 languages and dialects can be interpreted.

A phone service is also available for languages not covered by the interpreter list.

WellSpan York Hospital has met or exceeded the criteria to be designated a high performing provider for 2023-2024 in the treatment of OPD, colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart attack, heart failure, leukemia/lymphoma/myeloma, lung cancer surgery, pneumonia, and stroke. The annual Best Hospitals ranking evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. Rankings are largely based on objective measures like volume, discharge-to-home rates and quality of nursing. In addition, WellSpan York Hospital is called out specifically as a 2023-2024 “Best Hospital” in the country ranking #20 in Pennsylvania and as “High Performing” for Pulmonary and Lung Surgery.

Leapfrog Grade Designation

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement for giant leaps forward in the quality and safety of American health care. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assigns letter grades to hospitals based on their record of patient safety, helping consumers protect themselves and their families from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections. WellSpan York Hospital has earned the designation of a 'B' grade for the most recent report period.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have ranked WellSpan York Hospital as 4 Stars for Overall Hospital Quality. The overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings apply across the country based on each hospitals performance across five quality categories including: mortality, safety or care, readmission, patient experience and timely and effective care.

TRAUMA

Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center

WellSpan York Hospital is accredited as a Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation. It serves more than 650,000 people in York, Adams and Franklin counties, and is capable of addressing any kind of trauma 24 hours a day, seven days a week. WellSpan York Hospital’s Level 1 Trauma Center is one of three in south central Pennsylvania, and one of 15 in the commonwealth.

MATERNITY & NEWBORN CARE

Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

After an expansion in 2018, WellSpan York Hospital NICU now houses 44 beds, making it the largest in southcentral Pennsylvania. The change allows for increased capacity of round-the-clock specialty care. Level 3 NICUs can care for newborn infants with extreme prematurity or who are critically ill or require surgical intervention.

Joint Commission Accreditation

Accreditation for the Joint Commission means meeting or exceeding specific standards relating to quality of care, treatment, and services. WellSpan York Hospital maintains an accreditation from the Joint Commission. The hospital has also been awarded a Gold Seal of Approval certification for both the Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center and Ventricular Assist Device.

STROKE

Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center

WellSpan York Hospital has been certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission, meaning that the hospital has met standards for treating the most complex stroke cases and is ready 24/7 to deliver advance stroke care to patients. WellSpan York Hospital is the only WellSpan facility in York, Adams, Lancaster, and Lebanon counties with neuroendovascular surgery capabilities and to have earned Comprehensive Stroke Center certification, making it the regional referral center for stroke care.

WellSpan York Hospital has achieved the following from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association’s Get with the Guidelines (GWTG) awards for 2023: Heart Failure Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and recognized on the Target: Heart Failure and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll; Resuscitation Gold Quality Achievement Award; AFib Silver Quality Achievement Award; Stroke Gold Plus with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite, Advanced Therapy and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll. The GWTG awards recognize the hospital meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke and heart-care-related patients.

Gold Level Safe Sleep Facility

WellSpan York Hospital is recognized as a Gold Level Safe Sleep facility for its commitment to best practices and education on infant safe sleep.  As a nationally certified Safe Sleep Hospital, the hospital is recognized by Cribs for Kids for following the safe sleep guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and for providing training programs for healthcare team members and family caregivers.

Center for Excellence in Robotic Surgery

WellSpan York Hospital is among an elite group of robotic-assisted surgical centers in Pennsylvania, having achieved accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery from Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), a nonprofit patient safety organization. The hospital was the first healthcare facility in South Central Pennsylvania to attain this prestigious accreditation. Robotic surgery spans multiple specialties, including gynecology, gynecologic oncology, urology, urogynecology, bariatric, thoracic, colorectal, and general surgery.

Keystone 10 Facility

WellSpan York Hospital is designated as a Keystone 10 facility, for implementing evidence-based maternity care practices to help improve breastfeeding care and rates, as well as improving the health of new mothers and babies. Keystone 10, administered by the Pa. Department of Health and the Pa. Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, is a quality improvement breastfeeding initiative that began in 2014. It is aimed at improving the protection, promotion, and support of breastfeeding for all Pennsylvania infants, mothers and families.

WellSpan York Hospital has been recognized for delivering high-quality, effective and cost-efficient specialty care by Blue Cross Blue Shield. Meeting specific quality standards has provided the hospital with the opportunity to become a Blue Distinction Center for the following service lines: Comprehensive Bariatric Surgery, Maternity Care, Cardiac Care.

AARC Apex Recognition Award

WellSpan York Hospital’s respiratory care department was named the recipient of a 2021-2022 AARC Apex Recognition Award. The award recognizes the department as having demonstrated best practices in the profession and promoted patient safety by providing access to respiratory therapists to deliver their care. WellSpan York Hospital is one of just 15 acute care hospitals in the country to receive the award. The American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) developed the Apex Recognition Award in 2017 to recognize respiratory care departments that exhibit high quality of care.

The Extracorporeal Life Support Organization has awarded WellSpan York Hospital with a Gold Level ELSO Excellence in Life Support Award. HEART AND VASCULAR

American College of Cardiology (ACC) Patient Care Chest Pain Center

WellSpan York Hospital has been designated as a Chest Pain Center with Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention and Resuscitation. The accreditation is multifaceted and examines early stabilization, acute care and community outreach. As of 2019, WellSpan York Hospital was one of 4 hospitals in the state to earn the accreditation.

BARIATRIC SURGERY

Comprehensive Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Center

The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program is overseen by the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. WellSpan York hospital went through a rigorous review of the practices and care to earn the distinction.
