Preparing for Surgery
After you are scheduled for surgery at Apple Hill Surgical Center, your physician will discuss your procedure with you. It's important that you ask as many questions as possible so that you understand the nature of your surgery and what to expect. Be sure to tell your doctor about any medications you are taking. Also, please complete the entire health survey so we have all the information we need.
On the day before your surgery, you will receive a phone call from a member of our nursing staff, who will provide you with very important instructions. If your surgery is scheduled for a Monday. you will receive the call on Friday. Please be sure to notify us if you will not be available to take this important call.
If you have surgery that requires sedation, you must make arrangements for someone to drive you home following your operation.

Apple Hill Surgical Center offers a comfortable waiting room as well as a small snack shop located at the lower level of the medical center for the comfort of your escort. If your escort needs to leave the center during your operation, we will provide him or her with a pocket pager. |

On the Day of Surgery
From the moment you arrive at Apple Hill Surgical Center, our staff will work to make your experience as pleasant as possible.
Once you've registered, a nurse will escort you into our pre-operative area. Where a member of our clinical staff will take your blood pressure, pulse, temperature and respiration. Your clothes will be safely secured in a locker until you're ready to be discharged. If necessary, we will start an IV in your arm.
Before leaving the preoperative area, an anesthesiologist may visit with you to discuss your care and answer any questions you may have about your anesthesia. Your physician also may visit with you to explain the next step and answer any additional questions.
After spending approximately one hour in the pre-operative area, you will be escorted into one of our state-of-the-art surgical suites for surgery.
After your operation, you will be taken into the recovery area or the patient lounge, where your escort will be allowed to stay with you. Here we'll be sure to have plenty of coffee, juice, soda and crackers on hand.
If your recovery progresses according to plan, you'll be given instructions regarding your discharge. It will be important that you have your escort with you at this time, as the anesthesia may prevent you from remembering the instructions.
Because we care about your progress, a member of our surgical center staff will contact you by phone the day after your surgery. If we're unable to reach you, we'll send a postcard to your home and request that you contact us so that we may follow-up on your care.
In the meantime, we hope that your surgical experience is as pleasant as possible. Thank you for putting your trust in WellSpan Health. For the Journey that is life.
